"Vacation State of Mind" — Annie Flynn
June 30, 2026 - August 1, 2026
In Vacation State of Mind, figures inhabit a sunlit world of water and warmth, where time feels both expansive and fleeting. Flynn’s paintings evoke the sensory experience of immersion—light refracting beneath the surface, the weightlessness of water, and the ephemeral nature of memory. Her work reflects on the passage of time and the poignant awareness that such moments of innocence and leisure are both vivid and vanishing.
“Through my paintings, I’m trying to hold onto those fleeting, golden moments of youth—the shimmer of water, the warmth of sunlight, and the feeling of complete freedom,” says Flynn. “To paint is to relive, and I hope viewers find themselves transported back to their own memories of joy, connection, and belonging.”
Past Exhibits
"The Scenic Route" — Kate Schultz
June 2, 2026- June 26, 2026
Working in acrylic and mixed media, Schultz creates vibrant compositions that celebrate the quiet beauty of the natural world. Her paintings emphasize simplified forms and expressive color relationships, often stepping away from traditional depth to create playful, flattened landscapes that invite viewers to experience nature through a fresh lens.
“This collection explores the simplicity of shapes and color in the natural world while celebrating the unexpected joy found outside one’s typical daily route,” says Schultz. “When we slow down and take the scenic route—literally or metaphorically—we often discover moments of beauty that would otherwise go unnoticed.”
"Draw Near" — Nathaniel Mather
Spoonbill Gallery presents Draw Near, a contemplative exhibition of new work by Nashville-based artist Nathaniel Mather. Rooted in faith and shaped by an intuitive, layered process, the exhibition explores the intimacy that unfolds when seeking—spiritually and creatively—converges into a daily practice.
The exhibition takes its title from a verse in the Book of James: “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” For Mather, this passage reflects a rhythm of seeking guidance, strength, and transformation. In the studio, that same pursuit unfolds through paint, gesture, and material, where process becomes both inquiry and devotion. “This principle guides how I paint,” he says. “The studio is a space of presence where inner thoughts and emotions take visual form. As I work with attentiveness and trust, the painting gains clarity and authenticity, creating the possibility for a genuine connection with the viewer.”
"Playscape" — Glory Day & James McSharry
Spoonbill Gallery is pleased to present Playscape, a two-person exhibition by artist couple James and Glory Day McSharry, debuting in April. The exhibition explores the balancing act of life through the shared language of abstraction, scale, and play, bringing together works made both individually and collaboratively.
“This body of work holds a special place for us as it is our first collaborative show together and is reflective of our love of play, curiosity, and learning,” the artists share. “We are committed to always learning, maintaining a sense of awe, and joyfully celebrating discovery through our artwork.” Inspiration for the exhibition draws from James’ childhood collections of Legos, Tinker Toys, and ZoLO sets, where modularity, repetition, and gravity were first explored on a small scale before being realized in larger materials.
"Home and Garden" — Amy Shekhter
Spoonbill Gallery is pleased to present Home and Garden, a solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Amy Shekhter. Rooted in memory, ritual, and care, the exhibition explores the idea of home not as a fixed place, but as an evolving feeling—one cultivated through attention, familiarity, and growth.
Drawing from remembered spaces, textures, and landscapes, Shekhter’s work reflects a deeply personal creative process that mirrors tending a garden or curating a lived-in space. Each piece begins modestly and builds through layers of material and meaning, inviting viewers to slow down and engage with what feels both intimate and universal. Her process is tactile and intuitive, combining digital design with layered materials and textures that are carefully assembled over time, allowing each work to grow organically into a richly dimensional composition.
“Home, for me, is something you grow into,” says Shekhter. “It’s built from memory, care, and repetition—small moments layered over time. I want the work to feel familiar in a way that invites people to notice themselves within it.”
"Botanic Beats" — Pavni
Bursting with pattern, color, and movement, Botanic Beats opens at Spoonbill Gallery in February. Born in 1990, Pavni is a mixed-media artist who divides her studio practice between Davis, California, and Mumbai, India. A full-time, self-taught artist for the past five years, Pavni has developed a striking visual language rooted in her deep fascination with botanicals. Her artworks—layered, rhythmic, and overflowing with color—reflect her travels, her curiosity about the natural world, and her desire to translate nature’s quiet resilience into bold, expressive forms.
Pavni’s artistic approach evolved significantly during the global pandemic, when the steady cycles of nature became a powerful source of reassurance and reflection. “Nature has an unhurried rhythm that grounds me. In watching plants grow, gather, bloom, and fade, I’m reminded that every ending holds the seed of something new. Botanic Beats is my way of honoring that quiet, constant cycle,” remarks Pavni. This sense of cyclicity forms the backbone of Botanic Beats, a body of work that pulses with movement, pattern, and harmony. Each piece in the exhibition is a unique blend of botanical markings, signature patternwork, and a kaleidoscope of bright, uplifting hues. Pavni’s compositions invite viewers to explore and reconnect with the natural world, celebrating its ability to comfort, inspire, and endlessly regenerate.
