Artist Exhibit Statement

Sunny Mullarkey has chased curiosity like a butterfly flitting
from flower to flower. As a child, she tapped into the wonderment she felt using bold colors as
her hand skipped along her box of crayons. She knew the answers to her curiosity would often
be found by putting color to paper and then later in life, paint to canvas. As she transitions to
serving as the primary caregiver to a mother with memory decline, she is rediscovering
inspiration in revisiting these influential bold colors.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind “Soul in Bloom”, Mullarkey remarks: “I infuse every decision
with childlike wonder, pushing colors to their most vibrant and crafting textures that draw you
deeper into my imagination. Florals and feathers, treasures I've gathered on nature walks with
my mom, are reimagined as I reconnect with the inner child's awe for beauty.” Her inspiration
taps into witnessing her mom treat each day as a new beginning, discovering moments and
experiences afresh, finding joy in the present, and embracing the simplicity of living in the now.

Throughout life, endless curiosity has driven Mullarkey to discover and create whimsical worlds,
fueling a sense of purposeful chaos through unexpected perspectives. In her new body of work,
she crafts designs with bold colors and rich textures that flow playfully, inviting viewers to
explore the vibrant layers within each piece. Mullarkey desires for “my art to ignite yourimagination, sparking curiosity, and a sense of life within you.”
